SET-TOP BOX MAKERS
Scientific-Atlanta (SFA) and Pioneer Electronics countersued Gemstar (GMST) after it claimed they had infringed its patents. SA and Pioneer also allege antitrust violations.
It has countersued Gemstar, alleging antitrust violations and to invalidate Gemstar patents.
The satellite service is countersuing Gemstar after it sued for patent infringement. Echostar (DISH) has also alleged state and federal antitrust abuse.
...AND A RIVAL EMERGES
A consortium launched in July to provide a "server-based" interactive guide, is backed by four of the six largest cable companies: Adelphia (ADLAC), Comcast (CMCSK), Cox (COX), and Charter (CHTR). Also backed by WorldGate Communications (WGAT), a provider of interactive-TV services.
