Analyst Thomas Kraemer says he spoke to a couple of his key contacts who say Sun Microsystem's (SUNW) largest resellers are carrying almost three times the amount of inventory that would be normal. He notes one large reseller reported having eight weeks when three is optimal. He adds that GE Access, Sun's largest reseller, is advertising that it can deliver fastest -- it may have more than eight weeks at this point. He says his contacts suggested that server demand in general remains weak and Sun continues to disappoint their already downward revised plans.
Says this explains Sun's cautious forecast, which could mean further pressure on numbers. Merrill rates Sun near-term neutral and long-term buy.
