India's Suresh Krishna (Int'l Edition)

INDIA'S SURESH KRISHNA (int'l edition)

Any Indians who doubt that their companies can survive in global competition should look at Sundram Fasteners Ltd., a Madras auto-parts maker that has annual sales of $100 million. Sundram is an award-winning supplier to General Motors Corp. and other carmakers. Its success is due to the demanding standards of its founder, 61-year-old Suresh Krishna.

Krishna is known for refusing to pay bribes and for constantly investing in new equipment and employee programs to boost productivity. He's also on the hunt for acquisitions in the U.S. "The last 40 years of isolationism have kept Indian businessmen in India," says Krishna. "It is important now to step out of the country." The world will hear more from Sundram.
