RINGING IN '96 ON THE NET

GET READY FOR NEW YEAR'S Eve on the Net. Using digital video and audio technology developed by Xing Technologies, Web party surfers will see and hear the descent of the ball in Times Square as well as firsthand views via video cameras on the scene.

What's the difference between watching the countdown on TV and on your PC? Interactivity. Internetters using Netscape's Web browsing software can pick among four different video cameras scattered around Times Square. The site might also have live videoconferencing capabilities, connecting party-goers at Times Square with those at trendy Internet coffee houses.

The Times Square Business Improvement District commissioned a media consulting firm, Imageering Group, to build the Web site as an experiment for the big millennium blast as 1999 turns to 2000. Direct your Netscape Web browser to http://www.times-square.org.EDITED BY LARRY LIGHT, WITH PAUL ENG
