QUAYLE'S QUIET NOD

Officially, former Vice-President Dan Quayle is neutral in the '96 GOP Presidential race. But friends say Quayle is privately promoting Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.). The ex-Veep isn't going public so as not to offend a fellow Hoosier, Senator Richard G. Lugar, a long shot for the nomination.
