Elaine Garzarelli's Brush With The Law

Up Front: RED FACES

ELAINE GARZARELLI'S BRUSH WITH THE LAW

Elaine Garzarelli has been nabbed for drunk driving. Police say they arrested the vaunted stock seer at 5:53 a.m. on Aug. 19 in tony East Hampton, N.Y., after her BMW drove through some shrubbery as she turned a corner. Even though a squad car followed her with lights flashing, police say she continued down the street, which earned her a citation for leaving the scene of an accident.

Lehman Brothers strategist Garzarelli, 46, says she was driving a gentleman friend home after a night of champagne at her East Hampton home. "I thought I was fine to drive," says Garzarelli. "I was surprised when the test said I wasn't." A Breathalyzer test revealed her blood/alcohol level as 0.18 (legal limit: 0.10). She said she kept driving because she didn't realize the police wanted her to stop. She spent several hours in the clink, then posted $300 bail. A court date is pending.EDITED BY LARRY LIGHT AND JULIE TILSNER
