They Could Have Used This Program At The Tower Of Babel

Bits & Bytes

THEY COULD HAVE USED THIS PROGRAM AT THE TOWER OF BABEL

While the business world becomes more globalized every day, computer software remains remarkably parochial. As a result, multinationals have been forced to find versions of operating systems and applications in the native language of each foreign country in which they operate.

Not anymore. Accent Software International, an Israeli company with U.S. offices in Exton, Pa., has introduced a word processing program that supports 34 languages, 5 alphabets, and more than 75 TrueType fonts in one package. Its eponymous software allows users to work with multiple languages in the same document, switching between language-specific features such as spell-checking and hyphenation as needed. To accommodate different alphabets, Accent can be "remapped" to different keyboards to allow for each of the 34 languages. The $299 software also can exchange documents with most popular word-processing programs.EDITED BY PAUL M. ENG
