P&G HAS A LOT TO CHEW ON

Anybody interested in a million pounds of low-calorie cocoa butter substitute? Procter & Gamble would rather not be warehousing the stuff, a mix of fatty acids it developed called caprenin. P&G, seeking $10 million in a court suit, claims candymaker Mars stopped paying for caprenin in December, despite a deal to buy the calorie-reducer for its Milky Way II, whose national roll-out P&G says has been delayed. Mars won't comment on the suit, but says it is "happily" selling Milky Way II in some markets. P&G's only other customer for caprenin, Hershey Foods, tested a reduced-calorie bar last year but is chewing over the results. All that caprenin may be sitting around for a while. EDITED BY KEITH H.
