COMMENTARY

Think small. The Dow Jones industrials moved up 1% for the week, and the

broader S&P 500, 1.5%. But the real action in the equity markets was far away

from the blue chips. Both the S&P MidCap and the Russell 2000 indexes shot up

3.3%, which could be a sign of renewed investor interest in smaller companies.

The stock market took some strength from falling interest rates. The 30-year

U.S. Treasury bond rallied and the yield dropped significantly, despite

increasingly bearish bond market sentiment.
