Japan's Racehorse Imports Are The Least Of The Worries

Readers Report

JAPAN'S RACEHORSE IMPORTS ARE THE LEAST OF THE WORRIES

Regarding "A padlock on the paddock gate" (Sports Business, Oct. 5), you must be horsing around!

Does it make sense, horse or otherwise, for a serious U.S. business magazine to report in detail how Japan is so unfairly blocking imports of Thoroughbreds? With a trade deficit headed toward $100 billion this year, certainly U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills and her stable of experts have something better to do. If the state of the U.S. economy is such that racehorses are where we're betting the future of our national competitiveness, then we should cash in all our chips now--semiconductor, potato, and horse.
