ANIMAL RIGHTS AND A PINK SLIP

Did Procter & Gamble fire a worker in Green Bay, Wis., because she was a sponsor of an anti-animal-testing resolution that will be raised at its upcoming annual meeting? P&G says no, but Tina Geronimi, an eight-year P&G veteran, thinks she was.

Geronimi says she was terminated on June 11 for falsifying her time sheet. She admits she might have entered the wrong number of hours by mistake. But she says she had no prior disciplinary record and has filed a grievance. While refusing to talk specifics, P&G says "she was let go for specific performance and job-related reasons." P&G also says its plant manager didn't know Geronimi was sponsoring the resolution and notes that three other employee co-sponsors are still on the job.EDITED BY HARRIS COLLINGWOOD
