WHY HONEYWELL IS SAYING `CHEESE'
A month after winning a six-year court battle to uphold its patents on autofocus technology, Honeywell has settled with Minolta Camera. On Mar. 3, Minolta agreed in principle to pay Honeywell $127.5 million. That sum covers last month's jury award of $96 million as well as court costs and a worldwide license for the technology. Honeywell now will seek similar agreements with 15 other camera makers. All told, Honeywell could collect $300 million in back royalties.EDITED BY HARRIS COLLINGWOOD
