The Mark Hurd Effect

A lot has been written about the barbs and management poaching between Hewlett-Packard and Oracle. HP CEO Mark Hurd was ousted from the computer company in August 2010. Oracle's founder and Chief Executive, Larry Ellison, a personal friend of Hurd's and not one to hold his tongue, lashed out at the HP board, labeling the move one of the worst management decisions since Steve Jobs was forced out at Apple. The following month, Hurd joined Oracle as its co-president. If you're keeping score—purely on the basis of stock price—take a look at the chart to find out who's ahead.
