The University of South Carolina has appointed Peter Brews dean of its Darla Moore School of Business. Brews, currently a professor at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, will take over as dean on Jan. 16.
The 56-year-old native of South Africa teaches strategy and entrepreneurship and for seven years was associate dean of Kenan-Flagler’s executive program, OneMBA. Brews also taught at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
Hildy Teegen stepped down as dean of the Moore school in June. Since her departure, John McDermott has served as interim dean. Teegen is credited with helping the business school plan the development of its new building, which is scheduled to open in May.
Before coming to the U.S., Brews taught corporate law, finance, economics, and strategic management at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. “Dr. Brews has extensive international business connections and a keen sense of the global economy’s ongoing evolution,” noted Harris Pastides, president of the university, in a statement. “He is the right person at the right time.”
