Sir Mervyn King, who stepped down as the head of the Bank of England last month, will be a visiting professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business starting this fall, the school announced today.

King’s position will be in Stern’s economics department, an appointment shared with NYU’s law school. He’ll be participating in speaking engagements, lectures, and conferences at both Stern and the law school.

King led the U.K.’s central bank through the 2008 financial crisis and its aftermath. He is credited with helping Britain avoid a depression following the Lehman Brothers collapse but has been criticized for his initial response to the crisis, which ultimately resulted in a run on the bank Northern Rock, according to Bloomberg News.

Stern Dean Peter Henry says King’s experience at the Bank of England “will be a rich source of insight for the entire Stern community.”
