Welch College of Business

The John F. Welch College of Business is named after the legendary CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch. Students work with scholars and practitioners rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition with a focus on ethics and values. Learning takes place inside and outside of the classroom through our learning communities, in-service experiences with area non-profits, internships, and international exposure at our Luxembourg and Dingle campuses. All experiences are designed to prepare students to achieve their goals, give back to the community and make a difference in the global society.

  • Are work study or co-ops available? Yes
  • Description of work study / co-ops:

The business program offers various work study and student employment opportunities. Among the positions are research assistants, administrative assistants, and peer mentors. There are several graduate assistant positions also available for graduate students, most of which are MBA candidates.

  • Is study abroad available? Yes
  • Description of study abroad programs:

When you study abroad on a SHU Affiliated study abroad program, you are still registered as a SHU student; whether you are here or abroad. You are never “transferring out” of SHU and we make things as administratively smooth as possible. You can spend a semester, a year, a month, or two weeks abroad earning academic credit and gaining the kind of knowledge only a study abroad experience can provide. Two of the more popular destinations for business students are Ireland, and Luxembourg.

  • Is community service or volunteering available? Yes
  • Description of community service/volunteering:

We offer opportunities such as the VITA Program, our student-run T-Shirt design company with a philanthropic mission, and various outreach and leadership programs run through our Management department working with local youth organizations and elementary and high schools. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at Sacred Heart University allows students to assist low to moderate taxpayers in preparing their Federal and Connecticut income tax returns.
