Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the launch of “T4KA7”, a

The markets for smartphones and tablets increasingly require smaller cameras
but with much higher resolution. With a 1.12 micrometer pixel size
contributing to a smaller chip size, Toshiba’s new sensor achieves 20
megapixel images at its highest level and realizes 6mm z-height camera modules
for smartphones and tablets.

The new sensor also offers a much improved frame rate of 22fps, 1.8 times
faster than that of Toshiba’s previous 20-megapixel sensor^[2].

A reference module incorporating the new product is currently under
preparation and will be available from September 1.

With the launch of the new 20-megapixel CMOS image sensor, Toshiba commits to
meeting demands for higher resolution images for smartphones and tablets.
