Saint-Gobain introduces new Tygon low-permeation tubing for small engine
fuel transfer applications
AKRON, Ohio -- May 5, 2014
Saint-Gobain introduces a new low-permeation fuel tubing Tygon® LP-1200. The
patent pending fuel tubing has brought a solution to some of the key
challenges facing both outdoor power equipment OEMs and maintenance dealers
such as ethanol compatibility and easier service.
The product is designed for small engine fuel transfer applications,
especially for handheld lawn and garden tools such as chainsaws, brush
cutters, trimmers and blowers. It can also be used as fuel transfer hoses for
lawn mowers, snow blowers, and other ground supported equipment.
“Tygon LP-1200 tubing demonstrates Saint-Gobain’s fuel transfer expertise,
performance and co-development capabilities,” said Lily Lei, Global Marketing
Manager Chemical and Small Engine Industries, Saint-Gobain Performance
Plastics. “LP-1200’s competitive advantages are not only reflected in meeting
the low emission standards of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and
California Air Resource Board (CARB), but mainly provides a quick diagnosis of
fuel problems through its transparent tubing feature, saving time and labor
for maintenance dealers.”
The high purity material used in LP-1200 eliminates the risks of fuel
contamination in carburetors caused by rubber distractible commonly seen in
rubber tubing. End users will benefit from fewer engine problems, reduced down
time, and increased efficiency and performance.
As more higher ethanol blend gasoline become commercialized in the market, one
of the major challenges both OEMs and consumers face is the ethanol and fuel
additives to minimize ethanol damage to fuel systems. LP-1200 is highly
chemical resistant and compatible with higher ethanol blend fuel. The patent
pending design offers a superior tubing product that resolves those issues and
provides longer life.
LP-1200 tubing offers superior fitting retention to ensure excellent sealing
for optimum safety. It is resistant to UV as well as swelling, hardening and
cracking which can be caused by hydrocarbon-based fluids, thus offering
enhanced durability. In addition, the improved bend radius and flexibility
will also help ease the routing and assembly for OEMs. LP-1200 is transparent
with five standard sizes but can be customized to any size and color per
“We are pleased to launch the new LP-1200 fuel tubing to provide the industry
with an engineered solution through our fuel transfer expertise, product
performance and ability to customize to our customers’ needs,” says Lei.
