Iron Mountain Convenes Third Annual Symposium on Information Governance for Law Firms

Iron Mountain Convenes Third Annual Symposium on Information Governance for Law Firms Law firm information management leaders will explore key industry, privacy and security topics impacting information governance Business Wire BOSTON -- April 9, 2014 Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the storage and information management company, is hosting its third annual Law Firm Information Governance Symposium from April 9-11 in Washington, D.C., bringing together some of the legal industry’s leading information governance thought leaders to discuss ideas for improving how law firms protect and manage information. This year, for the first time, symposium participants will drive the agenda and discussion, helping to advance the standard for information governance within law firms. “It’s been a privilege to see how the symposium has grown and evolved over these last three years, mirroring the growth and evolution of information governance itself,” said Rudy Moliere, director of records and information, Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and a member of the symposium’s steering committee. “When we first started, information governance was an emerging practice. But as the stakes for managing information have grown, information governance has increasingly become a key part of law firm information managers’ daily lives. As a steering committee member, it’s been a thrill to see symposium participants take on the responsibility of continuing the information governance conversation in the weeks and months following the 2013 meeting, and I’m excited to see the results of all that hard work.” Following a request from symposium participants, the steering committee commissioned four task forces to analyze and report on protocols and best practices for the most pressing governance issues of the day. The task forces will present initial findings and recommendations at this year’s symposium, in a peer review format with 30 law firm and industry leaders. Iron Mountain will publish the final task force reports this summer focused on: *IG & the New HIPAA Omnibus Rules. Led by Brian McCauley, director of Information Governance at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, this team focused on what law firms need to do to comply with the 2013 Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Omnibus Rule, which expands the security and protection requirements for organizations that store or access private patient information. *IG & Lawyer/Matter Mobility. Led by Terrence Coan, senior director for HBR Consulting, this team explored the information governance ramifications of lawyers, clients and information moving from firm to firm, or matter mobility. *IG & eDiscovery. Led by Brian Donato, chief information officer at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, LLP, this team looked at how information governance can help properly manage and protect the large volumes of emails and other electronic records generated by electronic discovery requests from existing and prior cases. *Emerging IG Trends. Led by Samantha Lofton, director of records information, risk management & practice support at Ice Miller LLP, this team explored two key areas: The skill set requirements for emerging law firm information governance professionals, and how increasing client demands in outside counsel guidelines impacts law firms’ abilities to win business. “We’re excited that the symposium continues to grow and gain momentum, including new topics and, for the first time, a new participant-driven format,” said Carolyn Casey, Esq., senior manager, legal vertical for Iron Mountain. “Clients are now asking law firms if they have the appropriate measures in place to protect their information. In response, our task forces explored the intersection of information governance with privacy, security and compliance topics to help law firms create the right mechanisms and ensure they can address client demands. We are honored that the industry has embraced the symposium as a platform for creative dialogue and problem solving on these and other important governance topics.” For more information on Iron Mountain’s services for law firms, visit www.ironmountain.com/Solutions/Law-Firms.
