Smiths Detection announces today that its HI-SCAN 6040-2is advanced baggage
X-ray scanner has been approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference
according to EU Standard 2 Type C, under the requirements for Liquid Explosive
Detection Systems (LEDS).

HI-SCAN 6040-2is is an advanced dual-view X-ray inspection system for
automatic explosives detection at security checkpoints where bags and personal
belongings are screened. Its compact footprint combined with excellent image
quality and outstanding X-ray penetration enhances the comprehensive range of
Smiths Detection products and solutions for aviation checkpoints.

HI-SCAN 6040-2is is available in two resolutions as the scanner can be used in
different operational areas. The standard resolution is well suited for
critical infrastructure applications such as public buildings and hotels while
the high resolution version is approved for the detection of liquids in hand
luggage at airports in the EU.

Hans Zirwes, Vice President International Sales for Smiths Detection, said:
“The HI-SCAN 6040-2is expands our broad product range for the detection of
hazardous liquids in hand luggage. It has been well received and considerably
strengthens our ability to provide tailored solutions for different customer
requirements in the aviation market.”
