GlassPoint to Present at CERAWeek 2014 as Energy Innovation Pioneer Alumnus
VP John O’Donnell to discuss using solar steam to boost oil production in
IHS CERAWeek 2014
FREMONT, Calif. -- February 26, 2014
GlassPoint Solar, the leader in solar enhanced oil recovery (EOR), today
announced it has been invited by IHS CERA, one of the world’s leading energy
research firms, to participate in the Energy Innovation Pioneers program at
CERAWeek 2014 in Houston. John O’Donnell, vice president of business
development at GlassPoint, will present next Tuesday afternoon on the
advantages of using solar steam generators for thermal EOR in
CERAWeek is the preeminent gathering of senior energy executives from around
the world, with featured presentations from the CEOs of BP Plc., Chevron,
Total S.A. and Valero Energy Corporation. Now in its ninth year, the Energy
Innovation Pioneers program honors innovative and distinctive new technologies
transforming the energy future. GlassPoint, a 2013 Pioneer, returns this year
as an alumnus presenter.
GlassPoint designed its enclosed trough technology specifically for the oil
and gas industry. The glasshouse structure protects the solar collectors from
high winds, sand and dust common in oil producing regions. GlassPoint’s
project with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the largest oil and gas
producer in Oman, recently completed its first year of operations, exceeding
Who: John O’Donnell, vice president of business development at GlassPoint
When: Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 2:30 pm
Where: The Hilton-Americas Houston in Houston, Texas. Pioneer talks will take
place near the level 4 escalators and staircase on the West side of the hotel.
What: GlassPoint’s Innovation Pioneer Talk will provide an overview of solar
EOR and the company’s enclosed trough technology. During the session,
O’Donnell will discuss:
*Using the sun’s thermal energy to generate steam for EOR to expand
production of aging oilfields.
*Deploying solar EOR to reduce a field’s natural gas consumption by up to
*How solar steam generation can help oil and fuel producers comply with
increasingly strict environmental regulations, including California’s Low
Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).
*Performance highlights of GlassPoint’s enclosed trough technology,
including the latest data from the pilot project with PDO.
GlassPoint is the leading provider of solar steam generators to the oil and
gas industry for applications such as Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Oil
operators worldwide deploy EOR to loosen heavy oil and boost well productivity
by up to 300 percent. By replacing gas-fired steam generation with solar,
GlassPoint can reduce EOR gas consumption by up to 80 percent. The gas saved
can be redirected to higher value uses such as LNG export, industrial
development and power generation. GlassPoint’s projects operate in global
markets ranging from the Middle East to California. For more information,
