Aggreko Powers and Cools Art Miami
Leader in Rental Power & Services Delivers Temporary Utilities to 6-Day
HOUSTON -- December 5, 2013
Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power generation and temperature
control solutions, is providing a climate control solution for the 24^th
annual edition of Art Miami, the leading international contemporary and modern
art fair, December 3-8, 2013 in Miami, Fla. Collaborating with Eventstar
Structures, recognized worldwide for its unique designs of permanent and
semi-permanent fabric structures, Aggreko developed a cooling and power design
to meet the unique needs of the event’s “tented” facility, which is playing
host to more than 300 works of art and more than 65,000 artists, collectors,
dealers and curators.
Taking place each December during Art Weekat the Midtown Miami complex in the
renowned Wynwood Arts District, Art Miami incorporates about seven city
blocks. The event was designed and engineered using two distinctly different
tent structures and customized utility infrastructure. “Art Miami requires a
unique cooling solution for each individual event location,” said Luis Alfaro,
southeast area event specialist for Aggreko North America. “Given the design
of the structures, and the nature of art materials, it is important to
incorporate a flexible, temporary cooling system to ensure the integrity of
the artwork, as well as overall attendee comfort.”
Each exhibition section requires not only the ability to moderate airflow,
temperature and humidity, but also needs a way to redirect the air as required
to preserve the quality of individual exhibit pieces. One structure comprises
three tents connected by tunnels, with each section designed to showcase
different works of art in various sizes and media, including sculpture,
hanging art, and abstracts.
Art Miami’s installation included approximately 1000 tons of cooling and more
than 4000 kW of power. Quiet running, event-purposed rental generators,
combined with environmental protection features, will supplement grid power
and serve as a backup where needed. Various sizes of tent-compatible air
conditioners and chillers were installed to scale to the needs of individual
artists and their works.
“What sets Aggreko apart in our opinion is an unbeatable combination of
creative, technical expertise, and superior service,” said Alain Perez,
President, Eventstar Structures. “At Eventstar, we engineer and design
environments with a full commitment to customer style, and we are proud to
collaborate with the team at Aggreko to help us develop flexible, creative
power and cooling, for the ultimate guest experience.”
A dedicated Aggreko technical team began installation four weeks before the
event, and will be stationed on site throughout Art Miami to ensure all guests
are comfortable, and that the artwork remains center stage.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need
them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time.
Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to
service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power
shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems.
We serve our customers either through our 194 service centers, which we call
the Local business, or globally through our Power Projects business.
In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire
our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we
retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the Power Projects
business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a
power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our
customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity
we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these
requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.
Recent customers include the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the
Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the power utilities in over 50
countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh,
Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.
In 2012 we fulfilled almost 45,000 customers’ assignments and 70% of those who
responded to our research gave us a recommendation of 9 or 10 out of 10.
