DTE Energy employees give foster kids, adults a special Christmas
What: DTE Energy is working with Child & Family Services of Michigan
for the annual Operation Good Cheer drive. This program involves
foster kids writing their wish lists and DTE Energy employees
buying and gift wrapping three items from their list.
The collection day is this Friday, Dec. 6, when a volunteer semi
truck will arrive at the DTE Energy headquarters and be filled to
the gills with presents for more than 600 kids in foster homes.
Where: DTE Energy Headquarters, off Bagley between Second and Third
streets in downtown Detroit
When: 8 - 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6
Why: Child & Family Services started the holiday gift-giving program
in 1971 to help infants, children and teenagers have a merrier
Christmas. More than 4,000 kids are provided with gifts each year
to open on Christmas morning. Since the drive's inception, nearly
70,000 kids have had their dreams come true as a result of
Operation Good Cheer.
Background: DTE Energy is sponsoring more than 600 kids in the drive's
seventh year at the company. More than 300 employees companywide
are involved this year, providing gifts that range from bicycles
to electronics to clothing.
Some 2,000 to 3,000 wrapped gifts will fill the DTE Energy
headquarters lobby, providing great visuals during this holiday
