Courtesy BBG-BBGM 2013 Courtesy BBG-BBGM 2013 The law firm will occupy all of the commercial space in a 500,000 square foot, 17-story, build-to-suit tower, bringing more than 800 attorneys and professional staff to Fan Pier. Construction is expected to begin in early 2014, with anticipated completion in Spring of 2016. Located adjacent to Boston’s prestigious Institute of Contemporary Art and overlooking the Public Green and six-acre marina at Fan Pier, the commercial building will offer ground-floor retail and cultural space, and convenient access to public transportation, including South Station, a water taxi to Boston’s Logan Airport and the Financial District, Hubway bikes onsite and easy access to several highway exchanges, as well as a myriad of dining and shopping options. The internationally recognized architecture and design firm, Brennan Beer Gorman/Architects, out of New York, is the architect behind the project. Construction of the tower that will house Goodwin Procter will be part of The Fallon Company’s next wave of development on Fan Pier, along with the site’s first residential project, Twenty Two Liberty – a 14-story luxury residential tower offering 270-degree vistas of Boston’s cityscape and harbor. Once complete, the residences will offer the very best of luxury living in one of the city’s most dynamic urban neighborhoods, offset by green space and an unparalleled waterfront setting. Goodwin Procter LLP is a leading law firm, with offices in Boston, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. The firm provides corporate law and litigation services, with a focus on matters involving real estate, REITs and real estate capital markets; private equity; technology and life sciences companies; financial services; intellectual property; products liability and mass torts; and securities litigation and white collar defense. The firm, which was founded in Boston, celebrated its 100^th anniversary last year. “As Goodwin Procter begins its second century, it’s fitting that we move forward with ‘a home to call our own’ in the firm’s founding city,” said firm Chairman Regina M. Pisa. “Our talented and dedicated attorneys and professional staff look forward to joining the many current and prospective clients in the rapidly growing Waterfront neighborhood.” Joe Fallon, President and CEO of the Fallon Company, said the agreement with Goodwin Procter represents another major milestone for the development. “As we enter the next development phase for Fan Pier, Goodwin Procter’s build-to-suit high rise will help set the tone for the future of the site,” said Fallon. “As a company, our first goal is to make sure our developments complement the surrounding neighborhood, and Goodwin’s reputation and expertise across all sectors of the law, including technology, life sciences and intellectual property, make it a perfect fit alongside other best-in-class businesses on Boston’s waterfront.” With plans for the build-to-suit tower for Goodwin Procter underway, the site, which is a joint venture of the Fallon Company and Mass Mutual, currently features five high rise structures either completed or currently under development, including: One Marina Park Drive, the first commercial building on the site, which The Fallon Company completed in 2010; the two towers that will house the global headquarters of Vertex Pharmaceuticals – Fifty Northern Avenue and Eleven Fan Pier Boulevard – which are nearing completion; and Twenty Two Liberty, which broke ground in October. When complete, the Fan Pier neighborhood will feature a total of eight contemporary commercial and residential luxury high rises, offering sweeping views and the best in dining, shopping and recreation on Boston’s historic harbor. In addition to Goodwin Procter, The Fallon Company earlier this year finalized lease agreements with additional commercial tenants, including a pair of venture capital firms. Battery Ventures signed a seven-year lease to occupy 28,000 square-feet of commercial space, while Polaris Partners recently finalized plans to move its corporate headquarters to 16,000 square feet of space starting in early 2014.
