Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s largest association for
project managers, recognized Métier’s Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer,
Douglas Clark, with the PMI Eric Jenett Project Management Excellence Award at
a PMI Professional Awards ceremony in New Orleans, LA. The award is a
prestigious honor given to leaders in the project management industry who have
demonstrated leadership and innovation within the profession. Named after the
late Eric Jenett, one of the founders of PMI, Douglas Clark is only the tenth
individual to receive this exclusive recognition. The Eric Jenett Project
Management Excellence Award is not awarded on a regular basis; rather, only
when a deserving nomination is presented.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this award among pioneers in the project
management industry,” said Douglas Clark. “I truly believe that project
management is the answer to solving our world’s great business problems. We
are at the era where the project is the mechanism that delivers valuable, new
ideas to the market. We’ve seen the shift to projects as the economic value of
the world’s stock markets. In many ways, our profession is the most important
knowledge domain on the planet. That stimulates my passion to guide this era
with innovative concepts to help organizations get their projects to market as
fast and efficiently as possible.”

Mr. Clark was selected to receive this award for his innovative contributions
to the project management industry and profession. Mr. Clark started his
career in project management as a cryptologist for the U.S. Air Force and
National Security Agency. Mr. Clark learned a great deal about government and
commercial project management during his tenure with Lockheed Martin, IBM and
LANSystems. After founding Métier, Mr. Clark has helped federal and state
governments, Fortune 500 and Global 200 companies and programs of national
significance with project management. As an example, Métier partnered with
Sears Holdings Corporation in their Business Management System (BMS) V2.0
Transformation Program, which resulted in a PMI^® Distinguished Project Award.
This project leveraged PMI standards and Métier’s expertise to roll out
project portfolio management best practices across 32 business units of the
organization.

One of Mr. Clark’s many notable contributions to the industry was his founding
role for PMI’s College of Scheduling and leadership for the first Practice
Standard of Scheduling. In this endeavor, Mr. Clark was charged with building
consensus amongst hundreds of PMI members from numerous countries and cultures
around the world. The group built a framework to extend the dialogue on how
best to sequence work for many years to come.

Additionally, Mr. Clark has felt a calling to educate those entities who can
be most helped by learning project management concepts. Mr. Clark developed a
training curriculum for wounded warriors returning from overseas, that would
result in a CAPM® or PMP® certification and a new career path for the service
member. He brought in other experts from Métier to give their time to this
program. It resulted in an international corporate social responsibility award
from the American Business Awards. Mr. Clark also provides his time on a
gratis basis to help school districts and city governments learn project
management skills so that they can lead transformation initiatives. Mr. Clark
has instilled the concept of giving back in project management throughout
Métier, resulting in a number of staff members engaged in PMI and other
industry standards and community education. In addition, he is a well-known
speaker, leader and published author in his field.

Mr. Clark developed a broad patent portfolio to enhance the project management
industry. The concepts in his patents are focused primarily on natural
language processing and how we can use words and their performance to better
manage our delivery of projects. As Chief Executive Officer of Métier, Mr.
Clark provides the vision, product direction and service standards for
Métier’s project portfolio management offerings, PPM Central® and PMO
Central®. Mr. Clark was the first in the world to develop a PMO managed
service offering supporting PMI industry best practices, integrated with
enterprise software.
