Emission Information Develops One-Of-A-Kind Smartphone App

Helps Consumers Make More Responsible and Sustainable Energy Choices

Business Wire

BOSTON -- October 22, 2013

Emission Information (EI) has been engaged by NRG Residential Solutions to
develop a new mobile app called the NRG Clean Power Advisor that delivers
local, hourly emission intensity comparisons from electricity use. The
smartphone app, available to iPhone users, will be piloted to select NRG
Residential Solutions customers in the Philadelphia area and can serve as a
daily engagement and awareness platform to examine the impact that individual
electricity use choices have on the environment.

Using data provided by its strategic partner, Genscape, the leading global
provider of energy information for commodity and financial markets, EI has
developed proprietary algorithms, software models, and mobile and web apps
that provide hourly forecasts of emissions intensity from electricity use for
millions of electricity consumers by zip code. The localized, hourly
greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity information delivered by EI’s apps is
more precise than traditional methods of estimating carbon footprint from
electricity use.

“We are excited to be working with NRG Residential Solutions in the
development of this emission app,” said Dr. Gustav H. Beerel, EI’s Founder and
CEO. “Our application brings aspects of the smart-grid into the home or
business in a way that encourages daily engagement and awareness of how each
of us impacts our environment.”

About Emission Information
Emission Information provides data and insights to consumers and businesses to
help them to use electricity more responsibly and reduce their carbon or
greenhouse gas footprints. Electricity delivered through the grid comes from
multiple sources – some cleaner than others (electricity produced from solar
or wind is cleaner than electricity produced from coal). EI traces local
electricity by zip code back to the source and rates the cleanliness of the
electricity mix at a given time. Using EI’s mobile and web apps, consumers can
actively choose to reduce their carbon footprints by using more electricity
when it is cleaner and using less when it is dirtier. EI provides real-time
and forecast information through sophisticated modeling of proprietary data
provided by Genscape that allows consumers to schedule electricity usage up to
five days in advance. For more information, please
