Bouygues TP and Laing O'Rourke Confirmed for Hinkley Point C Construction PR Newswire LONDON, October 21, 2013 LONDON, October 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Britain's largest construction project boosted by agreement with UK Government The joint venture of Bouygues TP and Laing O'Rourke (BYLOR) has welcomed today's announcement by EDF Group and the UK Government regarding the future of nuclear power generation at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, following agreement of the commercial process by which the project can proceed. BYLOR is confirmed as preferred delivery partner in the early contractor involvement process, for the main civil engineering and construction contract valued at over £2 billion. "This is a pivotal moment for the UK construction industry as we move forward with EDF towards mobilisation and the start of work on site," said Anna Stewart, Group Chief Executive for Laing O ' Rourke, representing the joint venture partners. "Laing O'Rourke, as the UK's biggest private engineering and construction company and Bouygues, one of France's leading construction and nuclear engineering specialists, are delighted to step closer to commencing work on this huge undertaking. The development of Hinkley Point C in Somerset will become the single largest construction project in the UK, and we are hugely excited by the opportunity to showcase the skills and potential of our delivery teams and be at the forefront of a nuclear energy renaissance. "Today's decision is a massive endorsement of this country's capabilities in the engineering and construction sectors. Major projects such as the delivery of infrastructure for London 2012, and Crossrail, highlight our world class capabilities and exemplar programme management expertise. Hinkley Point C will open up a myriad of opportunities for employment, new skills and training, and engagement with the supply chain across the UK, but especially in the South West of England." Bouygues TP and Laing O'Rourke were announced as preferred delivery partners by EDF for the development of Hinkley Point C in mid-2012. Since then, work has continued to prepare for mobilisation. Once a Final Investment Decision (FID) is announced by EDF, the JV will move swiftly to establish site teams and commence work. Roger Robinson, Laing O ' Rourke ' s Europe Hub Chief Executive said, "The proposed nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point C is the start of the nuclear renaissance in the UK, and the BYLOR joint venture will be at the leading edge of a project shaping design for efficient construction. The construction programme will require 3600 operatives and 800 staff to bring it to reality, and we are committed to working with EDF and local groups and organisations to equip current and future generations in Somerset and across the UK with the skills they need to make this vision a reality."
