COLUMBUS, Ga. & CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- October 16, 2013

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading entertainment, digital cinema
and 3-D motion picture exhibitor, today announced the grand opening of its
newest state-of-the-art entertainment complex, the Carmike 13 at 910 Meijer
Drive in Champaign, IL, will happen on Thursday, October 31 – in time for a
special Halloween Celebration. Carmike Cinemas Cares is pleased to also be
hosting a Pre-Opening Night Charity Event starting at 7 pm on October 30.
Proceeds from the Charity Night will benefit United Way of Champaign County
and all attendees will be able to enjoy discounted admission and concessions,
with tickets, popcorn and fountain drinks available at just $2 each.

Thursday evening’s movie entertainment will feature one of the most widely
anticipated holiday season movies: Ender’s Game, Lionsgate’s military sci-fi
movie set in earth’s future, starring Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Hailee
Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield, in the title role. A variety of other Hollywood
recent releases will also entertain opening-night guests. On Friday November
1, Free Birds, a Thanksgiving-themed, family-friendly animated title with the
voices of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, begins its run at the Carmike 13.

The new complex has total seating to accommodate over 2,800 patrons and it is
the site of Carmike’s 20^th premier BigD digital experience large format
auditorium. Carmike’s acclaimed premium theatre environment also includes a
wall-to-wall screen measuring over 81 feet wide and three stories tall. The
BigD will have Christie Brilliant digital projection systems to play both 2-D
and 3-D features. The 30,000 lumen projection light output creates a picture
quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.

All auditoriums feature stadium seating, comfortable high-back rocking luxury
seats, retractable armrests and convenient cup holders. The Champaign location
also has large, wall-to-wall screens, DLP digital projection and digital sound
in all 13 auditoriums. The impressive state-of-the-art digital surround sound
system in the BigD auditorium also features one of the largest Dolby® Atmos™
installations in the country. Dolby® Atmos™, is a powerful new listening
experience for the movies, with sound that truly envelops you and allows you
to hear the whole picture. With Dolby® Atmos™, filmmakers can now precisely
position and move sounds anywhere in a theatre, even overhead, to heighten the
realism and impact of every scene. The upscale lobby has multiple concession
areas, including an expanded food and beverage menu. The entertainment complex
also has several self-service Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers and popcorn
stations. One-stop ticketing and concessions stations are a unique design
feature of the Carmike 13. Filmgoers will be able to escape the elements,
purchase their tickets and favorite concessions on the same line and quickly
move into their comfortable seats.

Carmike President and CEO David Passman stated, “We are delighted to provide
the ultimate experience for our valued guests at the Carmike 13, with bigger
screens, better sound and luxurious stadium seating in which to enjoy
cutting-edge digital cinema presentations. With the opening of our newest
location, the Champaign area joins a select, but growing list of communities
offering Carmike theatregoers our brand of large format BigD entertainment,
which seats nearly 600 guests in luxurious comfort.”

Additional BigDs are planned for all future Carmike new-build locations,
including Colorado Springs, CO, Opelika and Montgomery, AL, and a number of
other towns across Hometown America. “Whether it is a movie, concert, sporting
event, motivational speaker or church service, Carmike guests will find BigD
placing them at the heart of the event,” added Shannon Sailors, Carmike’s
Director of Advertising.
