M1 media statement on IDA's decision on network incident

SINGAPORE, 3 October 2013 - M1 Limited (M1) refers to the Infocomm Development Authority's (IDA) decision imposing a financial penalty on M1 for January's network incident.

IDA did not agree with our reconsideration request to reduce the quantum of the fine in light of our strong mitigating factors including our view that the incident was unexpected and beyond our reasonable control. We are accordingly evaluating the decision.

M1 is committed to delivering the highest quality of mobile services. We assure our customers that our extensive contingency plans enabled M1 to restore service in the shortest time possible under the unfortunate circumstances.

In addition, M1 has been carrying out enhancements on our networks since 2011. In 2013, we committed more than S$116 million into network infrastructure upgrades, including the implementation of advanced Mobile Switching Centre pooling and deployment of a nationwide 3G radio network on the 900MHz frequency, and will continue to invest to further enhance network resiliency and customer experience.
