OKI to Exhibit at electronicAsia 2013 in Hong Kong
- Reed switch market leader to introduce its latest high current reed switch -
TOKYO -- September 18, 2013
OKI (TOKYO:6703) today announced that OKI Sensor Device, an OKI Group company
that develops, manufactures, and sells reed switches, will participate in
electronicAsia 2013, an industry exhibition scheduled to be held at the Hong
Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from October 13 to 16. Demonstrating its
extensive experience in developing reed switches, OKI will showcase its full
lineup of reed switches, including the latest high current reed switch
designed for the global market, in addition to proximity switches which
feature embedded reed switches.
As the largest electronics components and technology sourcing event in the
Asia Pacific region, electronicAsia 2013 will showcase electronic components,
assemblies, electronics production, display technologies, and solar
photovoltaic technologies. It will be held jointly with the world’s largest
electronics event, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition), an event
that presents a vast array of electronics products, packaging & design
technologies, navigation systems, telecommunications products, and testing,
inspection, and certification services.
OKI began producing and selling reed switches in 1966. Reed switches are
turned on or off by the application of an electromagnetic field that brings
two reed contacts together or drives them apart. Since establishing OKI Sensor
Device in 1996, OKI has leveraged its extensive store of proprietary
manufacturing technologies to develop and manufacture high-quality reed
switches. OKI Sensor Device currently holds the world's leading share in the
reed switch market, manufacturing 400 million reed switches annually. These
switches find their way into a broad range of devices and applications,
including automotive applications, home appliances, IC testers, and home
security equipment. Demand for reed switches is expected to continue growing.
“The new high current reed switch is the culmination of OKI's proven track
record accumulated over nearly 50 years,” says Yuki Ushida, President of OKI
Sensor Device. “As the leading manufacturer of reed switches, we are excited
to showcase our products at electronicAsia, which represents a great
opportunity to increase our presence in this important market. By offering
products of the highest quality tailored to the needs of our customers, we
will continue to demonstrate our commitment to local markets while expanding
our business in Asia, including China.”
OKI Sensor Device will continue to provide reed switches featuring compact
dimensions, high performance, and high reliability, thereby contributing high
value to our customers’ businesses.

- Reed switch
A reed switch consists of a pair of ferrous metal reeds enclosed in a
hermetically sealed glass envelope. North and south poles are formed on the
reeds upon the application of a magnetic field. The reed switch operates
through magnetic attraction. When the magnetism is removed, the reeds return
to their original configuration due to the elasticity of the reeds.
- Proximity switch
In contrast to a bare reed switch, a proximity switch is an integrated module
manufactured to meet mounting specifications submitted by the customer,
thereby simplifying mounting processes. The proximity switches made by OKI
Sensor Device incorporate its own reed switches to achieve high functionality,
contact reliability, and precise operating characteristics.
