Cimatron Limited (NASDAQ: CIMT), a leading provider of integrated CAD/CAM
software solutions for the toolmaking and manufacturing industries, today
announced completion of the GibbsCAM^® interface to the DMG / MORI SEIKI APT
(automatically programmed tool) language implementation. This follows the role
played by Cimatron's subsidiary, Gibbs and Associates, in the DMG / MORI SEIKI
standardization initiative begun last year. The technology is based upon DMG /
MORI SEIKI's implementation of standard APT with DMG / MORI SEIKI extensions
that are supported within GibbsCAM.

In concert with DMG / MORI SEIKI's initial focus, the GibbsCAM interface
project began with 3- to 5-axis machining. Upon completion of that component,
the GibbsCAM interface was further developed to encompass both turning and
mill-turn requirements.Gibbs is working with DMG / MORI SEIKI to support MTM
machines in a future release. To the GibbsCAM user, the interface is a simple
output selection, with no further input requirement. It will be available for
demonstration at the EMO Hannover Trade Show, in Hannover, Germany, September
16-21, 2013. The GibbsCAM exhibit is Hall 25, Stand G30.

The GibbsCAM interface, in combination with the DMG / MORI SEIKI post
processor, enables the full use of features in DMG / MORI SEIKI machines and
controls without the need for custom post processors or machine simulation
models. As new machines and machine functions are introduced, DMG / MORI SEIKI
and Gibbs will incorporate the new capabilities into their APT implementation.
GibbsCAM users program a part in the same way as they are accustomed to doing
so, but instead of running a GibbsCAM post processor, they select the DMG /
MORI SEIKI interface, and with a single mouse click, generate a DMG / MORI
SEIKI -specific APT-CL file. The Manufacturing Suite Post Processor software
provided by DMG / MORI SEIKI take this data and create the machine ready NC
code.

Gibbs and Associates' implementation of APT with DMG / MORI SEIKI extensions
now provides output that customers can accurately post process, simulate, and
execute without the need for a new post processor or modifications to an
existing post processor for the entire range of machines that the DMG / MORI
SEIKI APT implementation supports. 

Background

DMG/Mori Seiki's goal is to have all CAM system providers implement the DMG /
MORI SEIKI APT implementation, which, when fully and accurately implemented,
would eliminate the need for custom post processors or custom machine
simulation models. The ultimate goal is for DMG / MORI SEIKI customers to have
a smooth and reliable flow of programming data from any CAM system to DMG/Mori
Seiki machine controls. The project is intended to address one of the main
challenges that CAD/CAM and machine-tool users often face: the need for a new
post processor and machine model for each of their machines. Currently, when a
customer purchases a new CNC machine or a new CAM system for use with an
existing CNC machine, they need to work with both the machine tool vendor and
the provider of their CAM system to implement a customized post processor and
machine simulation model to fully program and simulate the capabilities of
their machine. This process can sometimes be much longer than expected or
desired, especially when the project requires the collaboration of two
suppliers that do not always have the same level of detailed knowledge and
understanding of each other's products. In this new approach, the CAD/CAM
vendor outputs DMG / MORI SEIKI-specific APT data and DMG / MORI SEIKI
provides a post processor and simulation package for their CNC machine,
thereby eliminating the need for each CAM provider to develop a custom post
processor and machine model. With this approach, users will be able to start
cutting parts immediately after sending the DMG / MORI SEIKI APT-CL file to
the Manufacturing Suite software product which would then generate NC code
based on the post processors developed by DMG / MORI SEIKI.
