Kontron and partner Vantrix – a global provider of intelligent media delivery
solutions to service providers – will be at the Intel Developer Forum with a
live cloud-based video transcoding and delivery platform that demonstrates
significant advantages in cost-efficiencies, workload performance and
scalability for broadcasters, carriers, and providers of cloud and content
delivery services.

From the Kontron kiosk located in the Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI)
Community of IDF, attendees will learn how to efficiently deploy massively
scalable media-intensive applications, such as video transcoding and
streaming, in cloud infrastructure when leveraged with the OpenStack cloud
platform. The collaboration combines Intel® architecture-based standard
hardware – the Kontron SYMKLOUD Media platform designed with 18 modular
Intel^® Core™ i7 processors – with Vantrix real-time video optimization and
delivery applications.

“We are moving incredibly fast to enhance our combined technologies with the
feature-rich OpenStack cloud platform,” said Jean Mayrand, Vantrix CTO. “The
complexity and real-time demands of video transcoding requires much more
functionality and control than traditional cloud server offerings, and both
Vantrix and Kontron understand this. We have made significant strides to
enable cloud service providers with the optimal cost, control and performance
efficiencies that are essential for increased revenue from live and on-demand
multiscreen content delivery.”

“By utilizing the latest Intel technology and open source cloud computing
software, such as OpenStack, to demonstrate the ease of designing massively
scalable cloud infrastructure on standard hardware, Kontron and Vantrix have
advanced cloud computing and content delivery services,” said Rene Torres,
director of marketing, Software Defined Networking Division, Intel
Communications and Storage Infrastructure Group. “The potential upshot of this
collaboration will be tremendous for cloud service providers seeking
cost-effective cloud provisioning and virtualization of graphic engine cores.”

Benoit Robert, Kontron Executive Director, Product Management, Communications
Business Unit said, “Vantrix has clearly illustrated how much can be achieved
on the 2RU Kontron SYMKLOUD Media platform. With the platform’s 18 3^rd
generation Intel Core i7 processors, Vantrix can transcode up to 144 live
1080p videos using only 750 Watts, or 5.2 Watts per video channel. The 4^th
generation Intel® Core™ i7 Quad-Core processor is expected to nearly double
this performance.”

The Intel Developer Forum (IDF) will be at the Moscone Convention Center, in
San Francisco, on September 10-12, 2013. Learn more about IDF.

About OpenStack

OpenStack is a cloud operating system that controls large pools of compute,
storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, all managed through
a dashboard that gives administrators control while empowering their users to
provision resources through a web interface. The OpenStack cloud operating
system enables enterprises and service providers to offer on-demand computing
resources, by provisioning and managing large networks of virtual machines.
The compute architecture is designed to scale horizontally on standard
hardware, enabling the cloud economics companies have come to expect. The
OpenStack project is provided under the Apache 2.0 license. To learn more,
