Desalitech Appoints Mike Spinhirne as Senior Vice President of Sales Growing water treatment company adds another industry veteran to executive team Business Wire BOSTON -- August 28, 2013 Desalitech, a provider of high-efficiency water and effluent treatment solutions, announced today that it has appointed industry veteran Mike Spinhirne to be the company’s Senior Vice President of Sales. Spinhirne will be responsible for managing the company’s market strategy and overseeing U.S. industrial sales. Spinhirne joins an executive team of industry veterans that includes CEO Nadav Efraty, who has led Desalitech since its foundation in 2008; Professor Avi Efraty, Desalitech’s founder and CTO; Executive VP Rick Stover, former CTO of Energy Recovery, Inc. and a current board member of the International Desalination Association; VP of Engineering Eli Sivan, a 35-year veteran of some of the most ambitious water treatment projects in the world; CFO Alan Barber; and Patrick Regan, formerly of GE Water & Process Technologies. “Desalitech is fundamentally changing the environmental sustainability and underlying economics of water and effluent treatment,” said Mike Spinhirne, who has more than three decades of experience in water industry sales. “Desalitech is delivering an innovative high-efficiency solution that creates compelling savings and a clear return on investment for industrial customers.” According to Spinhirne, Desalitech is able to generate significant savings across industries and create opportunities to employ reverse osmosis technology where previously it has not been economically justified. Industry accounts for nearly 60 percent of fresh water withdrawals in the developed world, according to UNESCO, putting tremendous stress on water resources and driving the fundamental and increasing need for more efficient and cost-effective water supply and wastewater treatment solutions. Reverse osmosis (RO) is an effective and widely-applied technology for water treatment and desalination, yet current RO systems waste both water and energy. Desalitech’s Closed Circuit Desalination (CCD™) solutions are the first major improvement in RO water treatment in decades, lowering costs by 20 to 60 percent by increasing water-use efficiency, reducing energy consumption, increasing flexibility and reliability and greatly reducing the emission of brine waste. With their unique capability of extracting purified water from challenging sources at high recovery rates, CCD products are ideal for industrial water and effluent treatment, agricultural water supply and inland brackish desalination. “Few people are as seasoned and well-respected in the water industry as Mike, and we’re thrilled to have him on board,” said Nadav Efraty, Desalitech CEO. “He brings the leadership and relationships we need to accelerate our rollout of industry-changing innovations in water and effluent treatment into the power, food and beverage, agriculture and other industrial sectors. Mike’s joining is another vote of confidence from an experienced water expert that recognizes how our products can change the economics of water treatment, providing more reliable, cost-effective solutions to maximize the performance of industrial manufacturing operations.” Spinhirne began his sales career in 1981 as a district sales engineer for Betz Laboratories and has held various management positions in the Midwest and in Texas, with experience working for GE Water Technologies. Spinhirne most recently managed a team that coordinated the integration of Siemens Water Technologies Corp. into the newly formed Siemens Industry Inc. as vice president of sales. About Desalitech: Desalitech provides resource and cost efficient water and effluent treatment solutions. Its patented next-generation CCD™ process is a highly flexible and low energy water treatment platform that represents the first major improvement in RO water treatment in decades. CCD systems lower treatment costs by 20 to 60 percent by increasing water-use efficiency, reducing energy consumption, increasing flexibility and reliability and greatly reducing the emission of brine waste. With their unique capability of extracting purified water from challenging sources at high recovery rates, CCD products are ideal for industrial water and effluent treatment, agricultural water supply and inland brackish desalination.
