Fun Factor Increases at WEM, North America's Largest Mall EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/20/13 -- Conquer a zombie apocalypse, ride the world's largest permanent indoor zipline, or shop until you drop at West Edmonton Mall, North America's largest entertainment and shopping complex. Transforming the shopping centre concept into a destination attraction with entertainment, amusement and hotel options, West Edmonton Mall continues to lead the way with new additions this summer as both the Galaxy Quest 7D Experience and zipline attraction are the first of their kind in Canada. "We're hearing from our guests that they want interactive experiences," says Anna Alfonso, West Edmonton Mall Vice President of Marketing. "West Edmonton Mall is all about providing experiences. For people who enjoy rides, we want to provide rides that thrill and for people who enjoy shopping, we're providing them with the best if that is their form of entertainment." Experience the Mall Imagine a mall the size of a small city with two hotels (one is just across the street), 10 attractions, 100 dining options and an overall choice of more than 800 stores and services to choose from. At 5.3 million square feet, West Edmonton Mall always has something new to explore. It's home to Galaxyland, the world's largest indoor amusement park and the World Waterpark - with the world's largest indoor wave pool - where the temperature is a balmy 31 degrees Celsius every day of the year. For shoppers, there's the themed Europa Boulevard, where Quebec-based department store Simons and other higher-end fashion retailers are located - and that's just for starters. Now Playing It's all about fun at Galaxyland's newest attraction, the Galaxy Quest 7D Experience - part movie, part ride and part game. Start with 3D visual effects, then add in wind machines, strobe lights, rapid motion seats, and personal laser blasters. You'll find that due to the interactive nature of the ride no two visits will be the same! The attraction is currently playing two movies that rotate hourly: Los Banditos and Zombies. Or zip over to the World Waterpark for the world's largest permanent indoor zipline feature. Linetech Ziplines has opened a zipline over 138 metres (450 feet) in the park. The four-line system stre tches over the entire wave pool. Riders zipline at speeds up to 40-km/h (25 mph). While at the Waterpark - CNN Travel just named the park as one of the Top 12 in the world - learn how to catch a wave with newly introduced surfing lessons. And for something just a bit different there is Marine Life's new touchpool, which features animals to interact with. The pool includes a nursery for shark pups, enabling guests to view and learn about the different life stages of this marine species. Retail Therapy If it's chic, hot or trendy, chances are you'll find it at West Edmonton Mall. From fashion to home fashion, flats to heels or gifts to gadgets - and practically everything in-between - this mall is the one-stop place to shop. With a tenant mix geared to all age groups, here's a selection of some of the latest shopping options: -- Build-A-Bear just opened Canada's first new-concept and more interactive Build-A-Bear Workshop; -- Liquipel (liquid protection technology for smartphones, tablets and more) chose West Edmonton Mall for their first retail outlet in North America; and -- Spanish shoe retailer Camper unveiled their first Canadian location. They join a host of other major retailers including Aritzia, Coach, Disney Store, J. Crew, Kiehls, Lacoste, Lululemon Athletica, Scotch and Soda, Swarovski, Williams-Sonoma, and Zumiez. Later this year, Tiffany & Co. will open. "West Edmonton Mall is proud to welcome Tiffany & Co. to the Northern Alberta marketplace," says David Ghermezian, President, West Edmonton Mall. "Tiffany is an internationally recognized, first-in-class luxury jeweller found at only the world's premier addresses. Our diverse and sophisticated customer base recognizes excellence and will truly appreciate the unique shopping experience Tiffany & Co. will offer." It's A Mall World So much more is in store when it comes to West Edmonton Mall - and not just in regards to the numerous retail choices available. From a life-size replica of Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria - that you can board - to an NHL-sized skating rink, a casino, a cinema complex, commercial radio stations where the broadcast booths are visible to shoppers, and even a chapel, West Edmonton Mall transforms an urban bazaar into an unparalleled experience. "It's all about imagination. The Ghermezian family - owners of the mall - continue to believe that anything can be done. Their goal has always been to provide anyone who walks through the mall's doors with an exciting and lasting experience," adds Alfonso.
