FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 16, 2013
California Leads the Pace of Recovery around the Nation
SACRAMENTO - The California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA) reports that new
light vehicle registrations have increased 12.5 percent during the first six
months of this year versus a year earlier, higher than the 7.7 percent
improvement in the U.S. market. California's franchised new car dealers have
sold over 850,000 new units so far this year, of which nearly 63 percent are
passenger cars. Domestic brand registrations have increased 19.3 percent and
their market share increased 1.7 points.
California's hybrid retail market continues to rapidly increase. Mid-year retail
registrations for new hybrid vehicles hit over 59,000 units - nearly five times
more than the next closest state's. "California motorists are increasingly
taking advantage of the diverse choices and fuel efficiency benefits of hybrids
without compromising their lifestyle." said Brian Maas, President of the
California New Car Dealers Association.
California's new vehicle market continues to outpace the used market, as used
registrations in the state declined 5.3 percent during the first six months of
this year versus a year earlier. Franchised new car dealerships continue to
increase their share of the overall state used vehicle market accounting for
18.6 percent of the market, versus 17.5 percent last year.
