BODDULURI SELECTED AS ASME LEONARDO DA VINCI AWARD RECIPIENT Restoration Robotics Co-founder Granted Prestigious Engineering Award SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Restoration Robotics, Inc. today announced that co-founder Dr. Mohan Bodduluri, Ph.D., has been honored with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Leonardo da Vinci Award, which recognizes eminent achievement in the design or invention of a product which is universally recognized as an important advance in machine design. The Leonardo da Vinci Award, which was presented August 6, 2013 at the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conference, honors excellence and innovation in engineering in the spirit of fourteenth-century inventor and self-taught engineer Leonardo da Vinci. The award is granted annually by ASME, a not-for-profit professional organization that promotes international collaboration and excellence across engineering disciplines. At Restoration Robotics, Dr. Bodduluri was closely involved with the development of the revolutionary ARTAS® Robotic System, the first and only FDA-cleared, physician-controlled, computer-assisted technology for hair transplantation. The minimally invasive solution utilizes advanced digital imaging, precision robotics, and unprecedented automation in surgery to offer patients permanent results with no linear scar. Hair transplantation physicians can now offer their patients an unprecedented level of safety, efficacy, and comfort. His contributions in developing the ARTAS Robotic System resulted in numerous issued patents worldwide, and many others pending approval. "I am honored and humbled to have received such prestigious recognition from the engineering community," said Dr. Bodduluri. "I believe that this award underscores the importance of the work done at Restoration Robotics in staying at the forefront of innovation in hair transplantation technology, as well as advancing the area of medical robotics in surgery." About Dr. Bodduluri Prior to co-founding Restoration Robotics, Dr. Bodduluri was Vice President-R &D of Accuray Incorporated, the market leader in robotic radiosurgery. Dr. Bodduluri joined Accuray in 1992 and served as its VP-R &D from 1995 until 2003, when he left to found Restoration Robotics. Accuray's product, CyberKnife Radiosurgery System, surgically treats tumors, lesions, and other malformations anywhere in the body in a non-invasive fashion using advanced image guidance, high precision robotics, and high energy radiation. At Accuray, his responsibilities included leading its robotics work, field service, treatment planning software, and overall system design. He played a central role in the clinical investigations and customer education for the CyberKnife® radiosurgery system. Prior to joining Accuray, he conducted research in computer-aided design and manufacturing under a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Bodduluri received his Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, his M.S. in from the University of Pennsylvania, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, all in the field of Mechanical Engineering. About Restoration Robotics Restoration Robotics, Inc., a privately held medical device company, is dedicated to revolutionizing the field of hair transplantation by developing and commercializing its state-of-the-art image-guided ARTAS® Robotic System. This interactive, computer assisted system uses image guided technology and precision robotics to enhance the quality of hair follicle harvesting for the benefit of physicians and their patients.
