BBCN Bank Experiences Strong Mobile Growth Through Malauzai Software
Company develops Korean-language app for bank’s customer base
AUSTIN, Texas -- August 7, 2013
Malauzai, a leading provider of mobile banking SmartApps for community
financial institutions, announced that Los Angeles-based BBCN Bank has
leveraged the company’s mobile banking solutions to meet the multi-lingual
needs of its customer base.
BBCN Bank, with $5.8 billion in assets and 45 branches, serves the largest
Korean community outside of Korea and is the largest Korean-American bank in
the country. The bank was formed in 2011 when Center Bank and Nara Bank
combined to create BBCN. With a multi-lingual customer base, BBCN needed a
mobile banking technology that could serve the needs of both its English and
Korean speaking clients. Through Malauzai, the bank offers its customers both
languages mirrored in a single SmartApp. Within seven months since launching
the initial app, BBCN has seen more than 9,500 users register for the service.
The bank is currently working with Malauzai to roll out a native iPad app.
The bank has also integrated mobile remote deposit capture with the SmartApp.
The RDC functionality is available in Korean, making it the only one of its
kind in the country. More than 15 percent of mobile banking customers have
made a mobile deposit, with an average item value of $500.
“We want to provide our customers with more than just a mobile entryway to our
website,” said Brian Van Dyk, EVP and chief information officer with BBCN.
“For us, an integration between our mobile banking technology and core system
was imperative to meet the needs of our unique customer base and ensure
customized content was being delivered.
Malauzai’s SmartApps provides our clients with a robust experience that makes
their financial data easily accessible and manageable. In addition, SmartApps
give us the power of analytics to continuously improve upon that experience
based on actual statistics.”
“BBCN’s use of Malauzai’s SmartApps shows the breadth of institutions that
this technology can serve,” said Robb Gaynor, chief product officer and
co-founder of Malauzai. “From the smallest community institutions to one of
the largest community banks in the country, the Malauzai approach to mobile
applies and SmartApps improve the mobile banking user experience and raise
adoption rates. BBCN is a leading-edge bank that is looking to provide its
customers with all the perks that mobile banking has to offer, including the
ability to select your language preference. We look forward to continuing to
work with BBCN to expand how their customers interact with the SmartApps.”
