  Rite Aid Reports Same Store Sales for July

CAMP HILL, Pa. -- August 1, 2013

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) today announced sales results for July.

Monthly Sales

For the four weeks ended July 27, 2013, same store sales increased 1.3 percent
over the prior-year period. July front-end same store sales increased 0.7
percent. Pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 307 basis
points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 1.6 percent.
Prescription count at comparable stores increased 0.4 percent over the
prior-year period.

Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 0.9 percent to $1.898
billion compared to $1.881 billion for the same period last year. Prescription
sales accounted for 67.7 percent of drugstore sales, and third party
prescription sales represented 97.0 percent of pharmacy sales.

Year-to-Date

Same store sales for the 21-week period ended July 27, 2013 decreased 1.2
percent over the prior-year period. Front-end same store sales increased 0.4
percent while pharmacy same store sales decreased 1.9 percent. Prescription
count at comparable stores was flat compared to the prior-year period.

Total drugstore sales for the 21 weeks ended July 27, 2013 decreased 1.5
percent with sales of $10.089 billion compared to $10.247 billion for the same
period last year. Prescription sales represented 67.5 percent of total
drugstore sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.0 percent
of pharmacy sales.
