Rio Tinto signs long-term lease to relocate its Montreal office to city's only LEED® Platinum (CS) office tower

Rio Tinto signs long-term lease to relocate its Montreal office to city's only LEED® Platinum (CS) office tower

MONTREAL, July 11, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Rio Tinto has finalized a long-term lease with The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited and will relocate its Montreal office to become a key tenant of the Deloitte Tower on Avenue-des-Canadiens-de-Montréal in downtown Montreal in 2015. Details of the lease will not be disclosed.

Jacynthe Côté, chief executive of Rio Tinto Alcan stated: "Rio Tinto is committed to creating the safest, most efficient, environmentally-friendly and cost-effective work place for our employees. Our new home will provide this and so much more. The relocation of our Montreal office will mark a new chapter in the rich history of our presence in this city that we have called home for nearly a century. We are very proud to renew our long-term commitment to the Montreal community and to ensure the continuity of Rio Tinto Alcan's global headquarters in Montreal."

Rio Tinto will regroup all of its Montreal-based employees in this new office location where they will benefit from all of the amenities of the current location at 1188 Sherbrooke Street West and much more. The Company will occupy the top eight storeys of the 26-storey tower which represents 190,000 square feet of office space.

The Deloitte Tower will be Montreal's first LEED® Platinum (CS) office development.  LEED® buildings are higher performing in terms of energy and water consumption, indoor air quality, and access to natural light.  LEED® Platinum (CS) is the highest possible level of certification and is consistent with Rio Tinto's commitment to sustainability.

Rio Tinto's future Montreal home will be located on the Avenue-des-Canadiens-de-Montréal between two landmarks; the Bell Centre, and the heritage-designated Windsor Station. Construction of the new office tower began in 2012 and is expected to be complete by the second half of 2015.

The signing of this lease coincides with the conclusion of an agreement for the sale of Rio Tinto's current office space at 1188 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal. Details regarding the sale will be made public in due course.
