Ohio General Assembly Rejects New Online Travel Service Taxes

Travel Tax Advocates Successful in Stripping Punitive Language from House
                                    Budget

Columbus, OH, June 28, 2013 - The association representing the online travel
industry issued the following statement in regards to the Ohio General
Assembly stripping new online travel service taxes from the state budget.
Online travel services are already taxed as income. These new service taxes
would have constituted punitive and duplicative taxation on the compensation
of online travel companies, travel agents, tour operators and wedding planners
marketing Ohio as a travel and tourism destination:

"Travel Tech applauds the wisdom of the Ohio General Assembly for removing new
online travel service taxes from the state's 2013 budget. Higher tax
proponents were eager to claim new revenue from out-of-town tourists, but the
legislature quickly realized these new taxes were duplicative and harmful, and
would also apply to Ohioans and the in-state small businesses that rely on a
strong travel industry."

"The high-tax champions who supported this legislation attempted to slip in an
11th hour Ohio tax increase into the budget, but enlightened members of the
General Assembly properly recognized these efforts as a redistribution of
private tourism promotion dollars into the coffers of local government
agencies."
