KINBER Honors TorreyPoint, Juniper Networks and ADVA Optical Networking for the Completion of PennREN TorreyPoint, Juniper Networks and ADVA Optical Networking Are Recognized by KINBER for the Completion of the State-Wide Optical Network PennREN Business Wire PITTSBURGH -- June 27, 2013 Today, at the University of Pittsburgh, TorreyPoint and their strategic partners, Juniper Networks and ADVA Optical Networking, were recognized by KINBER (Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research) for their engineering excellence and leadership in the successful completion of PennREN (Pennsylvania Research and Education Network). PennREN is an optical network that spans 1,600 miles throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, providing high-speed connectivity to community anchor institutions, including K-12, higher education, libraries, public media, healthcare, 501C-3 corporations, first responders and municipalities. PennREN is providing these organizations with valuable IP services to enhance communications for voice, video, and collaboration. “It was an honor to be recognized at today’s celebration. We are very proud of the work done through this initiative, as it will forever change the way our children learn and work together,” said Steve Fazio, CEO of TorreyPoint. “It was a privilege to help create this network, forging a path for higher education to collaborate as never before and represents a milestone for TorreyPoint and our partners.” Since the project began in July 2011, TorreyPoint worked closely with best-in-class partners, Juniper Networks and ADVA Optical Networking to architect, deploy, and implement this middle-mile network, which today connects over 70 strategic locations throughout Pennsylvania. "TorreyPoint has been and continues to be a valued collaborator with KINBER.We recognize and thank them for their strategic guidance and excellent system integration that resulted in the successful completion of the Pennsylvania Research and Education Network," shared Jeff Reel, KINBER Executive Director. Members of KINBER — leaders in education, healthcare, economic development and technology — gathered today in celebration at their Annual Member Meeting to share ideas and success stories around the progress and breakthroughs achieved through access to ultra high-speed fiber optic networks. Among other high-profile speakers at the conference, Peter Southwick, TorreyPoint’s Lead Design Architect on the project, led a session on the basic architecture and technologies of the PennREN network, inspiring members to learn how they too can expand their profile and make a greater contribution toward the acceleration of education and research.
