                   Duke Energy increases quarterly dividend

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 25, 3013

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 25, 3013 /PRNewswire/ --  Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) today
declared a quarterly cash dividend on its common stock of $0.78 per share, an
increase of $0.015 per share. The dividend is payable on Sept. 16, 2013, to
shareholders of record at the close of business Aug. 16, 2013.

This is the 87^th consecutive year that Duke Energy has paid a quarterly cash
dividend on its common stock and the sixth consecutive year in which the
company has raised that dividend.

increase."
