PLX VP to Address Microserver Platforms' Adoption of PCI Express-Based Fabric at PCI-SIG Developers Conference

PLX VP to Address Microserver Platforms' Adoption of PCI Express-Based Fabric
at PCI-SIG Developers Conference
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/19/13 -- PLX Technology, Inc.
(NASDAQ: PLXT), the global leader in PCI Express(R) (PCIe(R)) silicon
and software connectivity enabling emerging data center
architectures, today announced that Larry Chisvin, PLX(R) vice
president of strategic initiatives, will deliver a presentation at
the PCI-SIG Developers Conference 2013 (DevCon 13) on how
microservers are gaining expandability and efficiencies through
PCIe-based fabrics. Chisvin's presentation, titled Implementing a PCI
Express-Based Fabric for Microserver Platforms, takes place Tuesday,
June 25, 9:30-10:30 a.m. and will cover a range of topics relevant to
how data centers' microservers are deployed and now poised to take
advantage of fabrics using PCIe Gen3's high-performance throughput of
8 gigatransfers per second per lane:

-- Current data center approaches
-- Benefits of PCIe in server designs
-- Migration to blade servers
-- Migration to microservers
-- Current approach to microserver fabrics
-- PCIe-based microserver fabric architectures

The presentation will explain to attendees how many data centers are
structured unnecessarily as high in part counts, power, latency,
complexity, and cost, then how a single converged fabric with PCIe
significantly reduces those drawbacks while increasing overall
performance. It also will illustrate how the emergence of
microservers, like standard servers, can gain from a standards-based
PCIe fabric by dramatically speeding the communication between
blades, processors and storage (standard rotating-disk or
solid-state) arrays. PLX will also exhibit ExpressFabric(R) hardware
at the event.
PLX PCIe products are enabling new markets, including key support for
emerging storage server appliances, and the usage of PCIe as an
external connectivity fabric (ExpressFabric) within the racks of
enterprise data centers. PLX is the worldwide market leader in PCIe
switching products, with 18 ExpressLane(TM) PCIe Gen3 switches
already in production or sampling, and several more in development --
including planning for PCIe Gen4 products.
The PCI-SIG DevCon is designed to help its member companies develop
and bring to market new products utilizing PCI technology. DevCon
2013 continues that tradition by featuring the latest series of
technical training sessions presented by PCI-SIG Workgroup Chairs and
other PCI experts. The event will be held June 25-26, 2013 at the
Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif.
