Ikanos Introduces inSIGHT Broadband Experience Manager (BXM), the Industry's
First In-Home Broadband Diagnostics and Monitoring
Solution Integrated Into a DSL Communications Processor
Increases Carriers' Ability to Diagnose and Solve Broadband Service
Issues, Resulting in Improved Performance and Superior Consumer
Experience, While Enabling Significant Carrier Operational Cost
THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS -- (Marketwired) -- 06/17/13 -- Ikanos
Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: IKAN), a leading provider of advanced
broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home,
announced today its new inSIGHT Broadband Experience Manager (BXM),
the industry's first in-home broadband diagnostic and monitoring
solution integrated into a DSL communications processor, designed to
enable carriers to realize significant operational cost savings and
improve consumers' quality of experience. Optimized for the company's
family of Fusiv(TM) Vx185 A/VDSL2 communications processors, the
inSIGHT BXM software suite leverages the advanced diagnostic features
of the chipset, along with Ikanos' patent-pending algorithms, to
enable carriers to proactively identify the cause of common wiring
faults and noise interference problems. By enabling the consumer to
resolve basic problems locally and enabling carrier personnel to
diagnose and resolve more complex issues remotely, carriers can lower
operating expenses by reducing the number of service calls and truck
rolls, as well as improve consumer loyalty and retention. Ikanos is
showcasing the functionality of the new inSIGHT BXM at the TNO DSL
Seminar 2013 in The Hague, The Netherlands, June 17-19, and at the
CommunicAsia conference at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, June
Residing primarily on in-home, customer premises equipment, with an
optional cloud-based monitoring and reporting component, inSIGHT BXM
is uniquely designed to provide a higher degree of visibility and
accuracy in identifying and resolving service issues than existing
network-based remote monitoring solutions.
"The CPE side of the access network is a hotbed of activity, as
carriers seek to provide customers an in-home communications hub for
all of their broadband applications and devices," said Jag Bolaria,
Senior Analyst, The Linley Gr
oup, a strategic consulting and
technology analysis firm reporting on semiconductors for networking,
communications, mobile and wireless. "Ensuring a positive customer
experience is the ultimate goal, and Ikanos' inSIGHT BXM takes aim at
resolving connectivity or performance issues that may arise in
serving the connected household -- even empowering consumers to
resolve basic issues on their own. At a time when broadband demand is
at an all-time high, this is a strong move by Ikanos to help carriers
provide a positive experience to subscribers."
With today's monitoring and diagnostics solutions, carriers can track
the effects of service-impacting issues, but have a very limited view
of the underlying cause of these issues. This is due to the carriers'
limited ability to discern wiring and noise impairments in the home
from their central office vantage point. This makes it difficult for
these carriers to diagnose and resolve service issues near or inside
the home. Since Ikanos inSIGHT BXM has an in-home view, it increases
the accuracy of problem diagnosis, which helps operators streamline
service calls and make smarter decisions on dispatching trucks to the
home, and, in some cases, eliminate a dispatch altogether. The
product further reduces operational expenses by supporting
self-diagnostic capabilities that help the broadband consumer solve
basic wiring problems, noise issues or configuration issues using
information provided by the broadband gateway.
"inSIGHT BXM provides a powerful set of tools to carriers that seek
to provide the best possible broadband experience for their
customers," said Andy Weitzner, director of marketing for Ikanos.
"For the first time, carriers will be able to easily identify the
noise and wiring impairments that are impacting their broadband
customers' quality of experience and take specific actions to
eliminate these impairments with reduced OpEx cost. inSIGHT BXM is
especially useful for carriers planning to deploy VDSL2 vectoring in
the future, as it will help identify actions that enable them to
prepare their network to deliver the best possible data rates and
quality of experience."
The Ikanos inSIGHT BXM includes the following capabilities:

-- Determines the loop topology without the need to rely on detailed loop
records that are often unreliable and out of date.
-- Detects common service-impacting wiring issues, including bridge tap
impairments, improperly connected microfilters, wire cuts, corroded
    wiring, and non-standard cables.
-- Provides the unique ability to identify common sources of in-home
noise interference and determine their impact on the customer
-- Enables both the consumer and carrier personnel to resolve
service-affecting issues through an intuitive user interface, enabling
problems to be resolved locally while minimizing the need for service
    calls and truck rolls.

inSIGHT BXM can be deployed as a standalone solution embedded in the
company's family of Fusiv(TM) Vx185 A/VDSL2 communications
processors. It can also be integrated into carriers' existing DSL
management systems and workflows to create a holistic view of the
customer experience.
Ikanos' Fusiv(TM) Vx185 A/VDSL2 Communications Processors
advanced, multimode A/VDSL2 communications processor, the Vx185
provides best-in-class A/VDSL rate and reach performance,
leading-edge processing power, wire-speed performance and a hardware
security block, while supporting carrier-class quality of service
(QoS) and VoIP. Ikanos' Vx185 supports all flavors of single-line and
bonded DSL, including ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and VDSL2, and further
enhances IPTV and triple-play networks by offering features such as
vectoring (G.vector), retransmission (G.INP), dynamic rate
repartitioning (DRR), and seamless rate adaptation
Ikanos' inSIGHT BXM is currently available for
lab trials. General availability is scheduled for early 2014. For
