PARIS -- June 17, 2013

Saft, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of advanced batteries for
industry, has been awarded a $1.2-million dollar contract from Ball Aerospace
& Technologies Corp., to supply the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery for a LEO
(low Earth orbit) satellite program. The battery will serve as the primary
power source for the spacecraft, and the partnership represents a new U.S.
customer for Saft.

The lightweight, high-energy battery will qualify to endure the rigors of life
in space and contain 40 VL 48E cells in an 8S5P configuration, packaged in
eight identical modules. The 32.8V, 240 Ah power source will provide active
balancing electronics that maintain consistent cell voltage levels to meet the
high cycling requirements of the LEO satellite.

“The agreement represents a new customer relationship for Saft, and enables us
to expand our program experience with our lithium-ion technology,” said Glen
Bowling, Director of Sales of Saft’s Speciality Battery Group. “We look
forward to providing Ball Aerospace with proven satellite technology as well
as making vital contributions to the space technologies market.”

Development for the project is underway with delivery scheduled for 2014.
