Greif, Inc. Research Report

On June 5, 2013, Greif, Inc. (Greif) announced results for Q2 FY 2013 (period
ended April 30, 2013). Net sales were $1,088.9 million compared with $1,098.2
million for Q2 FY 2012. According to the Company, modestly higher sales
volumes were offset by lower selling prices and the negative impact of foreign
currency translation. Net income was $40.9 million or $0.70 per diluted share,
up from net income of $39.4 million or $0.67 per diluted share in Q2 FY 2012.
Commenting on the results, David B. Fischer, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Greif, said, "Overall volumes were modestly higher compared with
the same period last year while material costs and restructuring charges were
both lower, which contributed to an increase in our consolidated results for
the second quarter of 2013. Volume trends in our rigid industrial packaging
business continue to vary by region. Our paper packaging business achieved
record performance for the quarter." In the second half of 2013, Greif
anticipates modest sales growth benefiting from the agricultural sector,
stable raw material costs across the Company's business portfolio, and
continuation of favorable market conditions in its Paper Packaging business.
