Rebuilding After Sandy: Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn
On June 6 Rebuilding Together, Meredith Corporation and Lowe's Revitalize
Homes & Communal Spaces in Devastated Brooklyn Community

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz Join Relief Effort
Meredith Corporation and Lowe's, in partnership with Rebuilding Together,
will mobilize more than 500 volunteers to restore the Gerritsen Beach
community in a day-long event on Thursday, June 6. The Rebuilding Together
project brings long-term recovery and much-needed repairs to this historic
working- class neighborhood post-Hurricane Sandy. Other sponsors include
Aleve, Assurant, Brooklyn Community Foundation, CBRE, Choice Hotels, Crate &
Barrel, and Philips Electronics.
Volunteers will work on several community projects, including:
oRenovating homes damaged during the storm
oUpgrading and repairing Vollies Memorial Hall, a local community center
supporting the last volunteer fire company in Brooklyn
oCleaning up and rebuilding recreation areas in Kiddie Beach, a beloved
gathering spot for locals

Driving from Manhattan
Take the Belt Parkway West, exit 9A at Knapp Street. Knapp Street will connect
to Gerritsen Avenue. Turn right onto Gerritsen Avenue for parking near the
Lois Avenue cross street.
Public Transportation from Manhattan
Take Brighton Beach-bound B/Q train to the Kings HWY Station. Walk 0.05 mile
(1 minute) south to Quentin Road and East 16^th Street for the B31 bus to
Gerritsen Beach. Take B31 bus to Gerritsen Avenue and Gotham Avenue. Walk
