Ten Students to Receive Up to $20,000 Toward Undergraduate Studies in United
States or Canada

HOUSTON, May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Spectra Energy Corp (NYSE: SE) today
announced that ten children of company employees have been selected to receive
up to $5,000 per year in scholarship funds toward undergraduate study at an
accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

50-year anniversary of our company's employee scholarship program," said Greg

to our employees. This year's scholarship recipients are academically strong

Recipients under the Spectra Energy Scholars Program are chosen annually by an
independent committee of judges and must be graduating high school/secondary
school seniors. The committee selects applicants based on their performance in
academics, leadership and participation in school and community activities,
honors and awards, work experience and financial need. The scholarships will
provide the students up to $20,000 during their four years of undergraduate

Two additional students were recognized for their achievements and will each
receive a one-time, $2,500 scholarship.

Taryn Fournie of Merlin, ON—A student at Ursuline College Chatham and the
daughter of Jeff and Suzanne Fournie and Amber Robson

Kruti Mehta of Sugar Land, TX—A student at Stephen F. Austin High School and
the daughter of Urvashi and Aswin Mehta

Shannon Payne of Chatham, ON—A student at Ursuline College Chatham and the
daughter of Christina and Greg Payne

Jonathan Rheaume of Salem, NH—A student at Salem High School and the son of
Rod and Mary Rheaume
