phone service now supports Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health
(HITECH) compliant solutions. HIPAA and HITECH requirements are detailed in
the Department of Health and Human Services regulations, including the Omnibus
Final Rule published earlier this year.

According to the HIPAA/HITECH regulations, all healthcare providers, health
plans, and health care clearinghouses (covered entities) and other businesses
acting on their behalf (business associates) that create, receive, maintain,
or transmit protected health information (PHI) are required to follow
procedures that protect the security and privacy of confidential patient data
such as medical and billing records. Even subcontractors of business
associates, such as third-party service providers, must follow these
