The Hearing Loss Association of America’s Walk4Hearing Continues to Raise Awareness about Hearing Loss Across the Country Business Wire BETHESDA, Md. -- May 02, 2013 Thousands are ready to take part in the Hearing Loss Association of America 8th annual Walk4Hearing kicking off this Sunday, May 5, in Rochester, New York. Throughout the year, 22 Walks will take place across the nation and will include pre-Walk refreshments, Walker awards and family-friendly entertainment. To register online, visit www.walk4hearing.org. To further its goal of creating awareness about hearing loss, and to directly affect the communities where the Walks take place, HLAA has teamed up with Alliance groups at each Walk. This unique collaboration with nonprofit, hearing-related organizations such as schools, hospitals, and hearing health care-related entities, provides them the opportunity to raise money and have the benefit of retaining a portion of the total amount raised by their teams for programs in their own community. The success of this program is evident in its growth from 16 Alliance groups in 2008 to 135 in 2012. Walk4Hearing would like to thank the following 2013Walk4Hearing National Sponsors for their support of this year’s Walks: Presenting Sponsors: CapTel Captioned Telephone, hi HealthInnovations, MED-EL Platinum Sponsor: T-Mobile USA Diamond Sponsor: IntriCon Gold Sponsors: Advanced Bionics, CaptionCall, Cochlear Americas, Wells Fargo Since its inception in 2006, the Walk4Hearing has raised more than $6 million and has welcomed 35,000 walkers, making it the nation's largest and fastest-growing hearing loss fundraising and public awareness walk in the country. In addition to raising awareness, Walk4Hearing raises funds that are used in local communities – to support communication access with CART, to provide scholarships for people with hearing loss to attend HLAA’s Convention, to support student scholarships for college, to enhance outreach efforts to underserved communities, and to remove the stigma associated with hearing loss.
